Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some questions about painting and decorating that the team at Red’s Paint and Paper often get asked.
If your question is not listed here, please contact us.
Do you supply the paint?
Yes we can. Our trade accounts enable huge savings over the normal retail cost of paint and you won’t have to do any running around when we need more. If of course you would prefer to supply the paint, that would not be a problem providing it is of a suitable quality that won’t affect our workmanship.
Can you help with choosing colours?
Yes we can provide some help when choosing colours. We are not interior designers though, so if you’re very critical, you may need to employ the services of an interior designer.
Do you do interior and exterior painting?
Yes we do. Inside we do walls, window frames, balustrades, ceilings, doors and door frames. Outside we do walls, roofs, gutters, fences, pergolas, decks and so much more.
Do I need to move out of home while it is being painted?
Usually, no. When we paint a house, we work in one section at a time. If we are painting an entire interior, we like get the living areas and bedrooms painted first for minimal disruption to you and your family.
If you have allergies, or don’t like the smell of paint, there are “No VOC” options, although most of the paint we use is already “Low VOC.”
What do I have to do in preparation for painting my home?
We try to cause as little disruption as possible but do ask that our clients move the smaller items off dressers, tables etc. This means, when we move furniture to the centre of the room, we are not handling your smaller personal belongings.
We always fill any holes and imperfections in walls. When painting the inside of your house, let us know if pictures are going to be returned to the same place on the wall or whether you would like the holes filled.
When is it time to have my building exterior painted?
Take a look at the condition of your property. Is the paint flaking, cracking, bubbling, or chipping? If it is, it’s time to restore its look with a fresh coat of paint.
Also, if the paint has gone chalky or has faded. That also signals that it’s time to give Red’s Paint and Paper a call.
How much paint do I need?
Many paint manufacturers and paint suppliers will have a calculator on their websites. Be aware, however, that these will be approximate only. The amount of paint used can be influenced by the porosity of the surface being painted and the number of coats applied (to cover darker undercoats sometimes takes an extra coat of paint).
Remember, we can visit your place to give a free, no obligation quote.
How do I know how much wallpaper I will need?
The easiest way is to let us work it out for you – we provide a free measure and quote service. However, if you want to work it out yourself, most wallpaper rolls are about 0.5m wide and 10m long. For a standard-sized wall, you get about three drops per roll. So, you can work out the total wall length and go from there.
Just be aware, however, it gets tricky because you need to consider the matching of pattern repeats.
That’s why we recommend you give us a call.
